"Everyone must work to comply with the Paris Agreement and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. We, on our part, encourage the electrification of demand and promote the decarbonization of the energy matrix, adding new renewable installed capacity. We will see electricity play a relevant role even in sectors where it has never been present before."
Maurizio Bezzeccheri CEO

The Enel Group was one of the first signatories of the "Business Ambition for 1.5°C" campaign promoted by the United Nations and other organizations, and we are committed to developing a business model in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement (COP21) to limit the increase in average global temperature to 1.5°C. In 2022, we confirm the acceleration of our goal with the Zero Emissions ambition by 2040 for direct emissions.

The Enel Group, of which Enel Américas as is a part, has also confirmed its direct emissions target in line with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C as certified by the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative.

OUR PROJECT "ZERO AMBITION"

Enel has two key objectives: to further improve the mapping of all direct and indirect emissions, while increasing accuracy and transparency in reporting; and define a path to reduce our carbon footprint between now and 2040 by setting emissions targets in line with the path to 1.5°C.

Our response to the challenge of climate change is based on a resilient and sustainable business model. To support it, we have adopted an organizational and corporate governance model that establishes the specific functions and responsibilities of the main governing bodies in the different countries that Enel Américas operates.
Our direct climate advocacy actions are carried out in line with the Paris Agreement. In particular, our policies aim to promote the electrification strategy from decarbonization and pursue climate objectives by engaging interest groups such as government representatives, industry associations, academia and non-governmental organizations to promote the Group vision in relation to climate and low carbon emission policies.

Enel Américas' carbon footprint in 2022 was 17.0 million t CO2eq (an increase of 22% compared to 2021). The total increase is due to energy purchases made from third parties, mainly in Brazil.

Total Scope 1 emissions were 6.56 Million t CO2eq. (10% less than in 2021).

Scope 2 reached 1.01 million t CO2eq (40% more than in 2021), 44% corresponds to energy losses.

Scope 3, which represents 56% of total GHG emissions, reached 9.5 million t CO2eq (58% more than in 2021). This year, Scope 3 was expanded to include 2021 and 2022 figures related mainly to emissions from fuel transportation, including end users of the electricity and gas market.

Enel's leadership in the fight against climate change is recognized by the CDP

Our inclusion among the climate change leaders of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) with an A- assessment represents recognition of Enel Américas' role in the fight against climate change and our position as a leading company in the transition to a zero-emission energy system thanks to our sustainable and integrated business model.
